PEOPLE ACTING TOGETHER IN HOWARD

PATH - Issues

House Meetings:

PATH has completed over 61 housemeetings with 487 Howard County residents, asking them, "How has the current economic situation affected you and your family?"

From those hundreds of conversations, PATH leaders have created and ratified the following agenda for PATH to address the central issues affecting individuals and families in the county:

1.  Health Care: PATH congregations will work with the Howard County Health Officer to raise the funding to hire a second organizer to lead a door-to-door campaign to speak face-to-face with 6,000 targeted Howard County residents to enroll them in affordable health care programs.

2.  Usury: PATH will work with the Industrial Areas Foundation on its national campaign to cap interest rates at 10% (see www.10percentisenough.org), and on a statewide and county level to discourage usurious practices in Maryland and Howard County.

3.  Affordable Housing: Pass statewide legislation to protect mobile home owners who live in some of the last affordable housing in Howard County.
